1924 While attending New York University, visits Alfred Stieglitz's "291" gallery periodically.
1925-46 Continues photography while working as chain store executive.
1947-59 As an expatriate in Paris, photographs painters, including Dufy, Leger, Matisse, Picasso, Utrillo, Vlaminck; and writers, including Colette and Cocteau. Photographs film celebrities worldwide, including Joan Crawford, Judy Garland, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Jack Lemmon, Paul Newman, and James Stewart. Photographs reproduced in magazines, including Fortune, Harper's Bazaar, Life, Look, Oggi, Paris Match, Stern and Vogue.
1955 As close friend of James Dean, photographs the actor on and off the set of Giant, then accompanies him on the trip that ended in Dean's fatal accident. Witnesses accident and photographs aftermath.
